Women's Swimming and Diving Places Fifth at ECAC Championships

Feb. 27, 2005

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team placed fifth at the 2005 ECAC Championships this weekend at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool. Sophomore Lauren Malski had the strongest performance for the Red Foxes on the meet's final day, breaking her own school record in the 200 breaststroke while swimming to her second NCAA "B" standard time in that event this year.

Malski set her 200 breaststroke record time of 2:16.92 while finishing second in the event. She will now wait to see if she is selected to compete in the event at the NCAA Championships. The announcement of the field will be this Friday.

The 400 freestyle relay squad of sophomores Kimberly Koehler, Victoria Fresolone, senior co-captain Emily Heslin and freshman Jamie Falco placed sixth in a time of 3:36.67. Heslin also chipped in a 12th-place finish in the 1650 freestyle in 17:45.63.

The Red Foxes scored 284 points at the meet, behind only Boston College, New Hampshire, Harvard and Wagner.

This weekend's meet marked the last team competition of the 2004-05 season. Junior Meghan Duffy and freshman Melissa Mangona will compete at the NCAA Zone A Diving Regionals in Annapolis, Md. March 11-12.
