POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Junior Andy Kiriakedes laced a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle in bottom of the seventh to help Marist finish off a sweep of visiting Fairfield with a 3-2 win Tuesday afternoon at the McCann Baseball Field. Marist improved to 4-11 overall (3-0 MAAC) with the win, while the Stags fell to 2-13 overall and 0-3 in MAAC play.
Sophomore centerfielder Travis Musolf collected two hits for the Red Foxes, while Fairfield freshman Brian Rudolph went 3-for-4, while senior David Soucy also notched a pair of hits.
Sophomore Erik Supplee shut out the Stags over 1.2 innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season, while Fairfield sophomore Ed Kamintzky six hits and three earned runs, while striking out one and walking four to take the loss after 6.1 innings. Robert Ryan also picked up his third save of the season for the Red Foxes. Junior Jonathan Smith gave Marist a fine start on the mound, giving up only five hits and one run in six innings, while striking out five and walking none.
After the Stags' John Scaife was able to dent the scoreboard in the top of the third with a run-scoring double, the game settled down into a pitchers' duel until the bottom of the seventh. After Marist's Joe Sargent and Justin Lepore began the inning with base hits, Pat Feeney singled home Sargent. Thomas Ciccarone was then hit by a Kamintzky pitch, loading the bases and chasing the left-handed pitcher from the game in favor of junior right-hander Dan Breen. Kiriakedes then provided what would be the game-winning hit one batter later to put the Red Foxes up 3-1.
Fairfield would attempt a comeback against Ryan in the top of the ninth, but could muster just one run on a sacrifice fly by freshman Ed Chilelli.
Marist will now turn its attention to Binghamton (7-9-1) for a 2:30 game at the McCann Baseball Field on Wednesday.
