Four Iuculano Goals Lead Marist Past Wagner 8-2

April 16, 2005

Box Score

Staten Island, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Tim Iuculano scored four goals to lead the Marist men's lacrosse team (4-5, 3-1 MAAC) to an 8-2 win over host Wagner today. Junior attackman Andrew Walsh chipped in with a pair of goals and the Marist defense held the opposition to just a pair of goals, the stingiest total the Red Foxes have allowed since 1991.

The Red Foxes got on the board first with 8:43 left in the first quarter as Iuculano scored off a pass from junior midfielder Bill Duerr. Iuculano added two unassisted goals early in the second quarter as Marist had a 3-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the half. A shorthanded Chris Albert goal would bring Wagner within 3-1 by halftime.

The third quarter was a defensive struggle that saw no scoring until Iuculano scored unassisted with 2:16 remaining and sophomore midfielder Mike McGuire converted Duerr's second assist with 22 seconds left in the quarter to put the Red Foxes up 5-1 heading into the fourth period.

Walsh scored both his goals in the final stanza including his first man-up goal of the season, assisted by Iuculano. With 13:08 remaining, junior midfielder Ryan Blaney scored his first career goal.

Junior goalie Stephen Gravino made nine saves to earn the win while freshman Terrence Dempsey saw his first career action, making one save in the final 3:11. Chris Sochacki made 16 saves for the Seahawks (1-9, 0-5 MAAC).

The Red Foxes are back in action Wednesday, April 20 at MAAC foe Providence. Game time is 3 p.m.
