Philadelphia, Pa. - Several members of the Marist men's track and field team competed at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday and Friday in Philadelphia. The sprint medley relay group placed third in its section, 1.16 seconds off the school record, while the 4x400 relay squad missed a school record by just two-tenths of a second.
The Marist contingent in the sprint medley relay, an event with legs of 200 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters and 800 meters, was made up of senior co-captain Adam Pakiela, freshman Greg Marks and sophomores Brian DeMarco and Mike Bamberger. The group finished in 3:31.31, behind only Duke and Monmouth in its section. Texas Tech was victorious overall in a field of 51 squads.
The 4x400 relay group of Bamberger, sophomore Bryan Quinn, junior Patrick Carroll and DeMarco finished in 3:23.57 to take fourth in its heat of eight teams.
The Red Foxes also competed today in the 4x100 relay as the sprinting corps of Pakiela, sophomore Matthew Williams, freshman Shaun Kippins and junior Rob DeAngelo placed fifth in its heat in a time of 44.52 seconds, 1.17 seconds behind the school-record time.
Yesterday senior Steve Hicks ran in the 5000 meters, placing 29th in a personal-best time of 15:08.58.
Marist is back in action Sunday at the Yale Springtime Invitational.
