POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's volleyball team won its third consecutive match on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of Loyola in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes prevailed by scores of 30-27, 30-21 and 30-24.
Senior outside hitter Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) led the Red Foxes with 16 kills, and added 10 digs for a double-double. Freshman outside hitter Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) also posted a double-double, finishing with a team-high 16 digs to go along with 11 kills. Senior middle blocker Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) finished with 11 kills, a team-best six aces, four digs and three blocks. Junior middle blocker Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) added nine kills, a team-high four blocks, and hit .533 for the match. In the Red Foxes' last two wins, Lukes has hit .617 while committing just one error. Freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) tallied 43 assists.
For Loyola, Blair Snyder led the team with 11 kills and added 10 digs. Nicole Scimeme had a team-best 12 digs, and Chrissey Cruz finished with 32 assists.
The match marked the first time this season the Red Foxes won in three games. The last time Marist won a match 3-0 was Nov. 1, 2005 at Hartford. The Red Foxes last won a three-game match at the McCann Center on Sept. 25, 2004 against Columbia. The last time Marist won a MAAC match by a 3-0 score was Oct. 24, 2003 at Rider.
This is the second three-match winning streak for the Red Foxes this season. Saturday's contest also avenged a five-game loss to Loyola on Oct. 1.
Marist now stands at 7-14 overall and 5-7 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes return to action with a home contest against Rider on Friday at 7 p.m.
Loyola fell to 6-20 overall and 4-7 in the MAAC.
