Final Stats |  Quotes

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - A trio of post players provided 50 of Marist's 58 points in a sound victory over Manhattan (9-14/6-8 MAAC) this afternoon, 58-42. The Red Foxes (17-5/12-1 MAAC) have won nine consecutive games in the McCann Center. Senior forward Fifi Camara (Conakry, Guinea) was just shy of a double-double posting a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds along with four assists.

Manhattan's Caitlin Flood scored the first bucket of the game, but that would be the Jaspers' only lead of the contest. A three-pointer by center Meg Dahlman (Spencerport, N.Y.) kicked off a 15-4 run during the next 10 minutes of play. With Marist up a convincing 15-6 at 7:36, Larie Dew hit a jumper for Manhattan, but the Red Foxes got right back on track with a Courtney Kolesar (Painesville, Ohio) triple.

The Jaspers would score just four more points for the half while the Foxes went on a 16-4 run including six points from Dahlman. Marist led 31-12 at the break, having forced 10 Manhattan turnovers and outrebounded the Jaspers 21-12.

Manhattan was sharp in the early goings of the half, scoring five straight points, but the Red Foxes would soon go up by 19 again after a Kristen Vilardi (Fishkill, N.Y.) layup (38-19). The Jaspers would not fall easily, fighting to get back to within 12, down 42-30 at 8:31. Marist maintained its distance, but a pair of free-throws by Joann Nwafili would pull Manhattan within 11, down 47-36 at 5:50. In the end, Marist's defense would prove too stifling for Manhattan to overcome and the Foxes held an 11-6 advantage down the stretch.

Dahlman finished with 18 points and five rebounds while 6-2 forward Sarah Smrdel (Mentor, Ohio) chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Marist outrebounded Manhattan 35-25 and forced 18 turnovers to just 11 committed.

Camara's last bucket of the game, a made free-throw with 51 seconds left, was the 800th point of her two-year career at Marist.

Please note that due to the time change for today's game, any unused tickets will be honored for Monday night's 7:30 p.m. contest with Canisius or for the Feb. 23 date with Fairfield.
