Women's Hoops Topples Manhattan, 58-42

Feb. 11, 2006

Recap |  Final Stats

Manhattan Head Coach Myndi Hill
On second half of game and comeback attempt:
I was very happy to see that in the second half. Marist is a great team. They intimidated us on offense and all of our kids are first or second year players. When you are playing the number one team in the conference you have to have one of your best shooting nights. We didn't have our best shooting night and we didn't hit our open shots. We also got pummeled on the boards, inside, and in the paint. Marist is a great program; they're number one in the conference.

Marist Head Coach Brian Giorgis
On today's victory:
It was a different type of game. Manhattan tried to slow the pace of the game down, and we are really comfortable at any pace. They came out with more intensity in the second half which I wasn't happy with. Our defense did very well contesting their shots and having them shoot tougher percentage shots. We had an opportunity to use our big lineup for an extended amount of minutes and that helped us out.

On Monday's game against Canisius:
It isn't a do-or-die game for us. We still need to win three out of five to finish first in the conference. We know we have a bye right now, but that's not what were out for; we want to win the conference. We are going to have to come out Monday with high intensity and emotion.

Marist senior forward Fifi Camara
On decision to come to Marist College:
I've been very happy since the beginning last year. I feel very comfortable here and I and very comfortable with the players. Everyone has been so good to me. At first, I didn't know anything about Marist at first, but assistant coach Megan Gebbia helped me decide to come here. I am very happy now and I feel at home.

On the importance of free throw shooting:
It is very important. It will help us a lot if we can hit free throws, especially with our post players getting to the line. We will need to make free-throws in MAAC Tournament.

Marist sophomore forward Sarah Smrdel
On her contribution today:
I was just hoping to get my shot down. I was trying to look for open shots and help out any way I can. It is a good opportunity for me and the team to keep the level of play high.
