PITTSBURGH, PA. - For the first time in school history the Marist Women's Swimming and Diving team won the ECAC Championships. The Red Foxes posted a point total of 535.5, as they bested Harvard who finished second with 483 points and Seton Hall, who placed third with 436 points.

Junior Lauren Malski (Trumbull, Conn.) claimed the ECAC Championships in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:16.10. The time met the NCAA consideration standard, as well as being a new school and ECAC record in the event.

The Red Foxes placed three in the top ten in the 200-yard backstroke, led by Jamie Falco (North Haven, Conn.) who finished second in 2:07.42. Falco was followed by Karen Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) in fifth and Ashley Papuga (Branford, Conn.) in seventh with times of 2:08.65 and 2:09.66.

Senior Jackie Fountaine (Pawling, N.Y.) was again strong for Marist in the 100-yard freestyle on Sunday. Fountaine placed fourth in a time of 53.23 seconds, Kim Koehler (Narragansett, R.I.) took the tenth position, clocking in with a time of 54.49 seconds. Fountaine and Koehler were also a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team, along with Sandra Bujalski (Thomaston, Conn.) and Falco, that took second place in a time of 3:33.76.

Bujalski and fellow freshman Catherine Hartford (Merrick, N.Y.) had strong rookie campaigns for the Red Foxes in 2006. They both played prominent roles in Marist's MAAC Championships and Hartford has been named the league's Swimmer of the Week in her first season. Aside from swimming in the 400-yard freestyle relay on Sunday, Bujalski went on to finish ninth in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.86. Hartford placed tenth on Sunday in the 1,650-yard freestyle, posting a time of 18:10.67.

After starting the season 9-0, the Red Foxes dropped the final two dual meets of the season as they finished 9-2 on the year. Last weekend they won their third straight MAAC crown and eighth overall since joining the conference.
