Final Stats

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Christine Jakobsen (Midland Park, N.Y.) went 6-7 over two games in a Marist sweep of Columbia Saturday afternoon, 5-1 and 13-8. Megan Rigos (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added another strong pitching performance in game one as she moved her record to 6-2 on the season with the win. With the sweep Marist has won eight of its last nine contests after beginning the season 1-4.

In game one Jakobsen went 2-3 at the plate, and also scored a run and drove in three. She opened up a 3-0 lead for the Red Foxes with a two run double in the second inning. After scoring three runs in the first two innings, the Foxes would post single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to give Rigos more then enough run support in the 5-1 victory. Rigos pitched a complete game in the win, surrendering just four hits and one run, she fanned three.

Jessica Green (Manassas, Va.) and Laurissa Riley (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) also posted multiple hit games for Marist. Green went 2-4 in game one with a run scored and an RBI, while Riley went 2-3 with a run scored.

Game two was a wild affair which saw the Red Foxes fall behind 6-0 after the first two innings. Green started on the mound for Marist and only lasted two innings. Sophomore Kristen Merlino (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) came in relief for the final five innings and gave up just two more runs to keep Marist in the game.

The Red Foxes' bats came alive as they plated two runs in the third, one in the fourth and then exploded for five in the fifth. When all was said and done, Marist outscored Columbia 13-2 over the final five innings of play.

It was again Jakobsen and Green who led the way for Marist at the plate. Jakobsen capped off her big day by going 4-4 in game two, with two runs scored and 2 RBI. She drove in her two runs with a double in the five run fifth inning. Green also picked up four hits, as she went 4-5 with 3 RBI.

The big inning was the fifth, as Marist scored five times on just three hits. The Foxes were opportunistic as they took advantage of three Columbia errors in the frame, before Jakobsen delivered the big blow in the inning.

With the sweep, Marist moves to 9-5 on the season. They will be back in action on Sunday when they host Yale of the Ivy League at the Gartland Athletic Field. The doubleheader with the Bulldogs is set to being at noon.
