Marist Bested By Colgate 14-5

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Marist Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 14-5 decision at Colgate on Tuesday night. Freshman Nick Hautau (South Salem, N.Y.) led Marist offensively with two goals.

Hautau opened the scoring in the game at the 12:40 mark of the first to give Marist a 1-0 lead on his even strength goal. Colgate would tally the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead until Pete O'Hara tied the score a 2-2 on an assist from Andrew Walsh (Liverpool, N.Y.) at the 10:01 mark of the second.

The Red Foxes would not score again until Hautau recorded his second at the 2:56 mark of the third. Colgate scored seven straight goals between the markers by O'Hara and Hautau.

After playing to a 1-1 tie after the first quarter, the Raiders exploded for seven tallies in the second against just the one by Marist. Colgate would take an 8-1 lead into the half and would go on to outscore the Foxes 6-3 in the second to give it the 14-5 triumph.

Colgate featured a balanced attack which saw it have nine different players enter the scoring column, including five who registered two goals. The Raiders were led on offense by Brendan Hurley and Matt Lalli who each posted two goals and two assists in the contest.

Colgate held the advantage in every major category in the game. The Raiders out shot Marist 41-19 in the game, held a 38-19 advantage in groundballs and won 14 of the 23 draws in the game. Both teams went 1-3 with extra man opportunities.

Ryan Penner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) got the start in net for Marist and fell to 3-3 as he made 12 saves on 24 shots in 45 minutes of work. Terrence Dempsey (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Michael Stella (Lynbrook, N.Y.) also saw time in the cage for Marist, as Dempsey made one save.

With the loss Marist drops back to .500 at 3-3 on the season. They will be back in action on April 1 when it opens the home portion of its schedule against Wagner. Face-off is set for Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
