POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Director of Swimming Larry J. VanWagner has announced the signing of four to add depth to his 2006 championship squad. 2006 marked the third straight MAAC Championship for the Marist women and eighth overall.
Victoria Kemp: Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill/Marist Swim Club
Victoria Kemp will join the Red Foxes from Spackenkill High School via the Marist Swim Club for the 2006 campaign. In the pool prior to Marist Kemp has competed in the Empire State games in 2003, 2004 and 2005. In 2006 Kemp also competed in the Metropolitan Senior Championships. Kemp also brings an impressive academic resume to the Marist. She was a member of the National Honor Society in 2005 as well as serving as a student government officer and President of the Leo Club in 2006.
ALYSSA HEWITT: Pittsfield, Mass./ St. Joseph's/Delmar Dolphins Swim Club
Alyssa Hewitt comes to Poughkeepsie as the Western Massachusetts champion in the 100-yard backstroke and a four time member of the All-Berkshire Team. Hewitt owns the St. Joseph's High record in three events; the 100-yard backstroke, 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley. Hewitt is also the 2005 USA Eastern Zone champion in the 200-yard backstroke. In the classroom Hewitt graduated tenth in her class and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was also the winner of the Massachusetts S-A Citizens Award.
LYNDSAY MARTIN: Schenectady, N.Y./ Mohonasen/Schenectady Swim Club
Lyndsay Martin will join the Red Foxes after an impressive career at Mohonasen High School and with the Schenectady Swim Club. In 2005 she won the New York State Section Two title in the 200-yard butterfly in addition to making the All-State Team. She was also a USA Sectional Championship Qualifier in 2005. This past season she was named a team captain, as she holds school records in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley. Also bringing and impressive Academic resume to Poughkeepsie, Martin was a member of the Spanish Honor Society, was an American Red Cross WSI and a member of the Mohonasen High Honor Roll.
JENNIFER SERINO: Shelton, Conn./Shelton/Shelton Seals Swim Club
Jennifer Serino comes to Poughkeepsie after being named to the Connecticut All-State Team all four years of her career at Shelton High. She was named a team captain for the 2006 season and is the school record holder in the 100 and 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. She was a USA Sectional Qualifier during the 2005 campaign. In the classroom Serino was named to the Principal's Honor Roll in 2006, as well as being a member of the Model UN Club. Serino also garnered Chemistry and Spanish Honors during her high school career.
In the 2006-07 season the Red Foxes will vie for their fourth straight MAAC title and the ninth overall.
