Final Stats
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - In a battle of Hudson Valley rivals played in Providence, R.I., the Marist Women's Soccer Team fell to Army 3-0 on the final day of the Brown Invitational. Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Nazarechuk (Ringwood, N.J.) made four saves for Marist in the loss.
Army opened the scoring at 17:57 when Therese Fox beat Nazarechuk to the ball and found the back of the net. Army would capitalize again before the intermission in the 41st minute, when Drew Biddick hooked a ball into the top left corner of the goal on an assist from Nina Traylor. The goal gave the Black Knights a commanding 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Army would put the game away, and close out the scoring, in the 85th minute on a goal by Sarah Goss. Fox would pick up her third point of the game as she assisted on the tally.
Although the resulting score was 3-0, the game was played even throughout. Army held a slim advantage in shots for the game at 18-13, including a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. Army also held the advantage in corner kicks at 6-2.
Prior to Sunday Marist had been winners in two straight contests; the loss drops the Red Foxes to 2-2 on the season.
The Red Foxes will take the field again on September 15 at The University of Maine. Kick-0ff in Orono with the Black Bears is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
