Marist-Iona Postgame Quotes

Jan. 10, 2007

Recap |  Final Stats

Marist Head Coach Matt Brady

Opening statement:

"Our senior backcourt, which is really a terrific, terrific backcourt, kept us out of harm's way for the most part."

On his team opening with a 17-0 run:

"It wasn't going to last. I did think we could keep a big lead for the whole game even though we went to our reserves. I thought Iona was a little shell-shocked, we made a few shots and they missed some shots. They missed a couple open shots to start the game, but give them credit, they fought back."

On Iona cutting into the lead in the second half:

"I don't really have a lot of fear when you have a 10-point lead and we're home as long as these two young guys (Jared Jordan and Will Whittington) are playing with fire. I never doubt that these two kids play with an awful lot of heart and energy and a willingness to win."

On Will Whittington effectiveness (21 points, five three-pointers):

"When he's making shots, which is most of the time, then we're an awful difficult team to beat."

Marist senior guard Will Whittington

On getting into a shooting rhythm:

"Guys find me on the court, which really helps me out. When I'm in transitition, [Jared Jordan] is always looking for me, and I know it. When I'm running down the court, I have a purpose, and I know that if I'm open, I'm going to get the ball."

Marist senior point guard Jared Jordan

On his ankle:

"I actually feel good. Yesterday I was a little frustrated because it didn't feel too good, but I told Will [Whittington] today with six minutes left that it felt good. I was able to move, cut, get to the hoop, change directions and actually jump a little bit."

On if getting a first-half rest helped him:

"No, I don't really like coming out."

Iona acting Head Coach Nick Macarchuk III

Opening statement:

"I thought we played as well as we could play after the first 10 minutes. They just got off to such a good start, and we couldn't hit a shot to save our lives."

On what makes Marist successful:

"If I wasn't coaching against them, I'd pay to watch them play. They know how to play. They're very, very unselfish, and that's because of Jordan. When your leader is unselfish, everyone feeds off that."

Iona forward Anthony Bruin

On his team's slow start (Iona fell behind 17-0):

"We came out shooting a lot of jump shots, and coach told us in the huddle that we can't come out, we have to go attack the basket against them and our shots weren't falling."
