SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Marist Swimming and Diving Squad moved to 8-0 on the season with a 156-144 victory at Seton Hall on Friday. Senior captain Pat Collins (Nutley, N.J.) and sophomore Spencer Hartmann (Windsor, Conn.) each won two events for the Red Foxes in the win.
Hartmann picked up his first victory of the afternoon in the 200-yard freestyle, as he bested the field in a time of 1:46.26. Hartmann also was the first to finish in the 500-yard free, posting a time of 4:48.06.
Collins continued to lead the Red Foxes, as he took the top position in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.50 seconds and then the 100-yard free in 47.76 seconds. Senior Will Shearouse (Milford, N.H.) finished third in both events, posting times of 22.62 and 49.39 seconds, respectively. Both Shearouse and Collins were members of the 400-yard freestyle team that finished second for Marist.
Other winners in the pool for the Foxes on Friday were Greg Jablonski (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Nick Chevalier (Milford, N.H.). Jablonski took the win in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:10.59, while Chevalier was the winner in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:56.81. Jablonski would finish second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:09.76 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.13 seconds, while Chevalier finished second in the 400-yard IM to Jablonski, posting a time of 4:13.38.
Ralph Rienzo (Wallingford, Conn.) also had a strong swim for Marist, as he finished second in both distance freestyle events on Friday. He posted a time of 9:49.54 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and finished the 500-yard event in 4:49.00. Rienzo edged his brother Matt, who swims for Seton Hall, in both events.
Other strong showings for the Foxes were turned in by Dan Garaffa (Manchester, Conn.) who took second place in the 200-yard backstroke and captain Brandon Youse (Boyertown, Pa.) who finished third in the event with a time of 1:56.97.
Mark Esolen (Archbald, Pa.) also turned in a strong swim for Marist, as he posted a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.38 seconds and a third place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 2:18.00.
In diving action, Marist divers took the top position in both the one and three-meter events. Freshman Mitchell Katz (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) won the off the one-meter board with a score of 256.05. He was followed by Devon O'Nalty (East Hartford, Conn.) in second place and Jesus Santos (Haverstraw, N.Y.) in third.
O'Nalty took the top spot in the three-meter event, showing a score of 259.35, while Santos took second place with a total of 248.78 and Katz finished third with a score of 242.78.
At 8-0, Marist will return to action on December 20 when it takes on Southern Connecticut St. at the McCann Natatorium. Senior Day festivities will precede the meet which is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
