SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Marist Women's Swimming and Diving team returned to action on Friday afternoon with a 162.5-137.5 win at Seton Hall. Senior captain Anna Sanner (Somerset, Pa.) set the school record in three-meter diving and Jamie Falco (north Haven, Conn.) won three individual events to propel Marist to the victory. Sandra Bujalski (Thomaston, Conn.) and Lauren Malski (Trumbull, Conn.) also won twice for Marist on Friday.
Sanner bested Megan Duffy's old record for six dives off the three-meter board of 265.50 by posting a score of 275.78. She also finished second in the one-meter event with a point total of 224.78. Following Sanner in three-meter diving were Melissa Mangona (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) in second place with a score of 251.03 and Katherine Carpenter (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) in third with a total of 208.50.
Falco continued her strong junior campaign on Friday, as she took first place in the 100-yard backstroke in 59.11 seconds, the 50-yard freestyle in 24.94 seconds and the 200-yard back in a time of 2:05.88. Falco also teamed with Malski, Bujalski and Kim Koehler (Narragansett, R.I) to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:49.00.
Malski, swimming in her first meet of the season, featured wins in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke to go along with the relay victory. She finished first in the 100-yard event in a time of 1:05.03 and the 200-yard event with a 2:23.11 clocking. She was followed by teammate Lyndsay Martin (Schenectady, N.Y.) in second place in the 100 and third place in the 200.
Bujalski also turned in a strong swim for the Red Foxes in Friday's win. The sophomore took the top position in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.99 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.77 seconds. She also finished second in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in a time of 2:11.30.
Freshman Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) also turned in a solid performance against the Pirates, as she took three second place finishes for the Red Foxes. Walsh-Thomas placed second in both distance freestyle events, finishing the 1,000-yard event in a time of 10:29.89 and the 500-yard event in 5:10.66. She also took second in the 100-yard free with a time of 55.32 seconds.
Friday marked the first competition for Marist since beating two of its three opponents at the H2Ounds Invitational on December 1-2. With the win Marist moves to 6-2 overall on the season and will be back in action on December 20 at the McCann Natatorium against Southern Connecticut St. The meet is scheduled to being at 1:00 p.m. and Marist's senior class will be honored prior to the meet.
