Lawrenceville, N.J. - A day after concluding a great weekend at the UCONN Fall Tournament, the Marist men's tennis team continued its strong play at Rider. The Red Foxes won 11 of the 12 singles sets played and swept the doubles point 3-0 in the 7-0 shut-out.
Loic Sessagesimi (La Tour-de-Peliz, Switzerland) was able to pull out a hard-fought victory over Rider's Casey Jedlinski. Sessagesimi dropped the first set 3-6, but came back to take the second set 6-4, and won the super tiebreaker, 10-3.
Sessagesimi, who was coming off a Flight One singles title at the UCONN Tournament, really impressed Marist Head Coach Tim Smith.
"(Loic) dug so deep he used a shovel and a spade," Smith said. "He was really great today."
Christian Coley (Cheshire, Conn.), Greg Marks (Newburgh, N.Y.), Jack Famiglio (Weston, Fla.), Michael Land (Kingwood, Texas), and Michael Levenson (Savannah, Georgia) were the other singles players that won. All five Red Foxes won with relative ease in straight sets.
In doubles play, Marist continued their domination of the dual-match. Teams of Coley/Sessagesimi, Marks/Land, and Famiglio/Levenson all won their eight-point pro sets.
The win moves Marist's MAAC Conference record to 2-0. It was the Red Foxes second consecutive shut-out of a MAAC opponent.
Coach Smith added, "People should start taking note of the high quality tennis these kids have been playing. The product they are putting out there is definitely high quality Division-I tennis."
The Marist men will return to action at home against Villanova on Sunday. The head-to-head dual match starts at 12:30.
