PRINCETON, N.J. - The Marist University men's tennis team earned a 4-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's in the MAAC Championships semifinal on Saturday afternoon to advance to Sunday's final.
Marist opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Senior Nick Suhanitski and junior Thomas Bevan earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1, while graduate student Jose Catala and sophomore Fateh Singh followed with a dominant 6-0 win at No. 3. The No. 2 match featuring sophomore Ian Layton and sophomore Gregor Heinemann went unfinished with Marist trailing 5-2.
In singles play, the Red Foxes clinched the match with three straight-set victories. Bevan delivered a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5, while Catala followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1. Sophomore Anirudh Nallaparaju secured the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4.
Matches at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6 went unfinished.
Marist has won 12 MAAC Championships in program history but has not claimed a title since its three-peat from 2013-15. The Red Foxes last reached the championship match in 2018, falling to Monmouth.
