SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Friday afternoon officially started the season for the Marist men's and women's swimming and diving teams, and the Red Foxes diving corps had a big day.
Diving coach Melanie Boldstad was thrilled with how her squad opened up. "Today (Friday), was definitely the best we've ever done in the opening meet of the year."
Red Foxes took three of the four top spots in the men's 1 meter event. Devon O'Nalty (East Hartford, Conn.) won the event with a score of 291.65. Mitchell Katz (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) finished third by putting up a score of 254.20, and Brian Boldstad (Highland, N.Y.) took fourth with a 244.80. All three scores were ECAC qualifying.
In the women's 3 meter event, Melissa Mangona (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) placed second with a score of 276.05. Her score was good enough to qualify for the NCAA Zone Regional's. Katherine Carpenter (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) took fourth in the event. She scored 199.70.
On the swimming side, Ralph Rienzo (Wallingford, Conn.) won the men's 1000 yard Freestyle with a time of 10:01.73. In the men's 200 yard Individual Medley, Greg Jablonski (Massapequa, N.Y.) took second with a time of 1:57.81. The men's 200 yard Freestyle relay finished in first place with a time of 1:27.32.
Jamie Falco (North Haven, Conn.) won the women's 200 yard Individual Medley. Her time was 2:10.78. Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) finished third in the women's 1000 yard Freestyle with a time of 10:37.88.
The Red Foxes will continue the Syracuse/Army Invitational on Saturday and Sunday before returning to Poughkeepsie.
