POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. --Three members of the Marist swimming and diving program took weekly awards from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Senior Melissa Mangona (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) took the MAAC Women's Diver Of The Week. Devon O'Nalty (East Hartford, Conn.) was named the MAAC Men's Diver Of The Week and senior Greg Jablonsk (Massapequa, N.Y.) was named Men's Swimmer Of The Week. All three had strong weekends in Syracuse at the Orange Invitational.
Mangona opened the 2007-08 campaign in a big way. The Red Foxes senior captain finished second in both the 3 Meter and 1 Meter diving events in Syracuse. In the 3M she scored a 276.05, which qualifies her for the ECAC Championships, as well as the NCAA Zone Regional's. In the 1M event, she scored a 249.50, which also qualifies her for the ECAC's.
O'Nalty led the Marist men's diving squad with an extremely impressive opening weekend. He won both the 1 Meter and 3 Meter events. In his 1M victory he scored a 291.85. In the 3M win he scored a 283.80. Both scores were personal bests for the senior and qualified him for the ECAC Championships.
Jablonski had four different second place finishes on the weekend; the 200 Yard Individual Medley (IM) (1:57.81), the 400 Yard IM (4:13.17), the 100 Yard Breaststroke (:59.19), and the 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:08.07). His finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke was his personal best.
The three award winners and the rest of the Marist swimming program will get back to competition Thursday when they host Fordham in their first dual-meet of the season. The meet is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the McCann Center Natatorium.
