BALTIMORE, Md. -The Marist women's soccer team wrapped up a successful weekend road trip by playing Loyola (Md.) to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon. The Red Foxes are now 5-1-1 in the MAAC and alone in first place.
The match was a battle throughout with both teams struggling to get going on the offensive attack.
"It was a great match between two really good teams," Marist Head Coach Elizabeth Roper said. "Going in we were one and two in the conference, and we expected a battle. My team played hard for the entire 110 minutes and I'm happy with the way they played"
Loyola held a 10-6 shot advantage and a 7-4 advantage in corners.
The Marist defense of Melanie Ondrejik (Manalapan, N.J.), Ashley Chase (Lumberton, N.J.), Maria Baez (Levittown, N.Y.), Lauren Tillotson (Islip, N.Y.), and keeper Allison Lane did a great job all afternoon for Marist.
"Our defense was the story today. They were all over the field and really did a nice job keeping the Loyola scorers from getting any real strong chances," Roper said. "The consistency that group plays with is exceptional."
The tie gives Marist 16 points in the MAAC standings which is one point ahead of second place Loyola. On the road trip to Rider and Loyola, the Red Foxes picked up four points and got themselves back into first after falling out the top spot after their loss to Manhattan.
The Marist women will return to action at home next weekend versus Niagara and Canisius.
