Dec. 14, 2007

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Junior fullback Ray Fiumefreddo (Wayne, N.J.) of the Marist football team was named a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Academic All-Star on Friday. Fiumefreddo, who carries a 3.84 grade-point average and is majoring in Business/Finance, played in all 11 games for the Red Foxes this season.

"It's an honor for the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association to annually award an academic all-star team in FCS football," said Jim Murphy, chair of the Football Championship Subdivision Academic All-Star Team Selection Committee and athletics director at Davidson College in a statement. "These outstanding individuals represent the true meaning of the word student-athlete. We are proud of their accomplishments both in the classroom and on the field."

The All-Star team contains 51 members. Each of the nominees for the award were required to have a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 (on a 4.0 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key contributor to his team.

This season, Fiumefreddo was fifth on the Red Foxes with 115 rushing yards, and also scored a rushing touchdown. He also caught eight passes out of the backfield for 55 yards. Fiumefreddo also had a strong season as a lead blocker for a team which averaged 146.5 rushing yards per game, and played a key role on special teams.
