Chase Hatton Named to Jerry Rice Award Watch List

Honor Presented to FCS’ Top Freshman

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Chase Hatton of the Marist University football team has been named to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List.

The Jerry Rice Award honors the Football Championship Subdivision Freshman Player of the Year. The award is in its 15th anniversary season. Previous winners include Cooper Kupp, Chase Edmonds, Trey Lance, Cam Ward, and Shadeur Sanders.
 
Hatton has already earned national recognition for a pair of outstanding performances this season. He earned Honorable Mention for FCS Stats Perform Freshman of the Week after the Red Foxes' victories against New Haven and Wagner. In his first collegiate game against New Haven, Hatton totaled seven tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Two games later at Wagner, he finished with nine tackles and an interception.
 
Hatton is the Red Foxes' leading tackler this season with 52. He has three tackles for loss, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
 
Following the conclusion of the regular season, a national voting panel will select the winner of the Jerry Rice Award. The award recipient will be announced on Dec. 3, and will be honored at the Stats Perform National Awards Show on Jan. 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Marist will return to action on Saturday, when the Red Foxes host Drake in a Pioneer Football League contest as part of Homecoming & Reunion Weekend. Kickoff is set for noon.
