POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team earned a 7-0 victory over Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon, prevailing in every set in a match held at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. The Red Foxes improved their record to 8-2 on the season with the triumph.
At first singles, Pedro Genovese (Asuncion, Paraguay) cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Joey Michaels. Christian Coley (Cheshire, Conn.) downed Ben Schueler, 6-0, 6-2. Gregory Marks (Newburgh, N.Y.) defeated Nate Carvalho, 6-3, 6-0, at fourth singles. Ray Josephs (Rose Valley, Pa.) defeated Christian Malerba at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Federico Rolon (San Diego, Calif.) earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at sixth singles against Tom Cook.
In doubles action, Genovese and Jeff Nguyen (San Diego, Calif.) posted an 8-4 win over Schueler and Goldstein in the number one spot. Marks and Josephs defeated Michaels and Malerba, 8-3, at second doubles. Coley and Sessagesimi posted an 8-4 win over Carvalho and Cook at third doubles.
Marist will return to action on Wednesday with a match at Rhode Island. The Red Foxes will return home on Friday for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest against Rider at 2 p.m. Marist currently sports a 2-0 MAAC record.
