April 10, 2007

Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Sophomore Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) had a game high five goals and junior Lindsey Diener (Nanuet, N.Y.) added four markers and five assists in Marist 22-13 triumph over Sacred Heart on Tuesday afternoon. Ali Carnabuci (Albertson, N.Y.) and Liz Falco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) also had big days for the Red Foxes, with each tallying four goals on the afternoon.

The first half was a back and forth affair that saw the score tied six times, including at 8-8 to end the period. Marist could never open a bigger lead then two goals in the half. Garland and Falco each scored twice in the first thirty minutes and Diener had just one of her nine points in the first.

Sacred Heart opened the scoring in the second half on a goal by Carissa Hauser just 32 seconds into the frame. After Hauser scored again at 23:38 to tie the game at 11-11, the Red Foxes reeled off six straight goals. Diener scored three of those goals and assisted on two others. Carnabuci scored two during that span and Falco added a goal at 17:41 on an assist from Morgan Dillon (Freeport, N.Y.).

The Pioneers would cut the Red Fox lead to 17-13 with 13:23 left to play on back to back goals from Hauser and Katie Salamone, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the game. Following Salamone's goal the Red Foxes posted the last five scores of the game, including two by Garland, to earn the 22-13 win.

Nicole Musto (Glastonbury, Conn.) posted a pair of goals for Marist and Lindsay Rinefierd (Smithtown, N.Y.), Lauren Ciccarello (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Megan White (Copiague, N.Y.) also found the scoring column in the win. Garland also contributed two assists, with Dillon also adding a helper in the game.

For the Foxes, Falco scooped a game high five ground balls, with Carnabuci picking up four and goalie Liz Burkhard (Wantagh, N.Y.) also finding a pair. Marist finished the game with 22 ground balls against 20 for the Pioneers.

Marist outshot the Pioneers 43-41 in the game, including a 35-27 advantage in shots on goal. The Foxes were also successful on 16 of their 18 clear attempts in the contest. The Foxes converted four of 10 free positions shots, but Sacred Heart took a 21-16 advantage in draw controls in the contest.

Burkhard had her second 10+ save effort in as many games. She turned away 14 Sacred Heart shots in the game, including 10 in the second half alone. With the win she improves her record to 3-4 on the season.

At 6-4 overall on the season, the Foxes will return to MAAC play on Friday when they host Niagara at 3:00 p.m.
