Final Stats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Freshman shortstop Richard Curylo (Staten Island, N.Y.) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field Wednesday to score senior center fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) with the game-winner to lift the Marist baseball squad past Army 6-5 in 13 innings. The game lasted four hours and 14 minutes. The Red Foxes improved to 8-21 overall, while Army dropped to 13-17-1.
Marist was led at the plate by two hits apiece from sophomore left fielder Max Most (Port Washington, N.Y.) and senior second baseman Pat Feeney (Manchester, N.J.). Senior designated hitter Justin Lepore (Madison, Conn.) had the big blast of the day, a three run shot to leftcenter field in the first inning for his team-leading fourth home run of the season.
Army right fielder/pitcher Cole White led the Black Knights with three hits, while shortstop Tony Capozzi had a pair of base knocks.
Both squads went the staff route Wednesday, electing to send a host of hurlers to the mound. In all, 16 pitchers were used between the two schools and 415 pitches were thrown. Marist freshman right hander Eric Alessio (1-2, Nyack, N.Y.) picked up his first career win, tossing 1.2 innings of relief, while allowing just one hit and striking out two. Junior left hander Tom Close (Devon, Pa.) also pitched well right before Alessio took the mound, as he surrendered just two hits and two walks in 4.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Army's Kyle Terza (0-1) was the hard-luck loser, yielding just one hit and an unearned run in two-thirds of an inning.
The Red Foxes (4-7 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) face Iona (9-20 overall, 4-7 MAAC) Saturday in a doubleheader at noon in New Rochelle. The final game of the series will be noon Sunday.
