FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team has reached its ninth consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championships final by earning a 4-0 victory over third-seeded Niagara on Saturday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The second-seeded Red Foxes (16-4 overall) will top-seeded Manhattan in Sunday's final at 1:30 p.m.
Marist won all three of the doubles matches to earn the doubles point, and also earned victories at second, third and fourth singles. The matches at first, fifth and sixth singles were called off prior to their conclusion since the result of the match has already been decided. Freshman Christian Coley (Cheshire, Conn.) earned a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at third singles, and junior Gregory Marks (Newburgh, N.Y.) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win in the fourth spot.
This will mark the fourth consecutive year Marist and Manhattan have met in the MAAC final, with the Jaspers winning the previous three. Prior to that, the Red Foxes won five consecutive MAAC crowns from 1999 to 2003. In the teams' regular-season meeting on April 12, the Jaspers won 5-2.
