Final Stats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist baseball team split its doubleheader with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Fairfield on Saturday, falling 5-2 in the first game before earning a 4-3 victory in the second game. The Red Foxes now stand at 11-11 in MAAC play with four conference games remaining.
The Red Foxes pulled out the win in the second game in their final at bat. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and junior catcher Keith Glasser (Rensselaer, N.Y.) on first, senior center fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) smoked a ball down the right field line off Fairfield closer Mike Fournier (1-1). Glasser came around to score to give the Red Foxes the victory.
Senior right-hander Erik Supplee (Williamsburg, Va.) pitched a complete game, upping his record to 5-2. Supplee took a perfect game into the fifth inning and a shutout into the seventh, but Fairfield struck for three runs in the top of the seventh. A two-out, two-run single by Fairfield third baseman Patrick Hoban enabled the Stags to tie the game at three apiece. Supplee gave up six hits, struck out three and did not walk anyone.
The Red Foxes had opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second, which included a double by senior infielder Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.) and an RBI triple by Glasser. Feeney went 2-for-3 in the second game, making him the only player on either side to have multiple hits.
The Stags won the first game behind a complete game effort from senior left-hander Ed Kamintzky (4-4), who scattered 11 hits and struck out seven. Sophomore lefty Josh Rickards (Glenolden, Pa.) took the loss for the Red Foxes, falling to 4-4 on the season. Rickards gave up three runs in five innings and struck out three.
Junior right fielder Brian Rudolph went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored for the Stags in game one, and junior shortstop Albie DeSimone went 3-for-5 with two runs driven in. Randolph's fourth-inning homer put the Stags ahead for good. Sophomore infielder Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) was 3-for-3 with a run scored for the Red Foxes in the first game, and Feeney added two hits in four at bats.
Prior to the doubleheader, Marist's nine-man senior class of Musolf, Supplee, Feeney, designated hitter Justin Lepore (Madison, Conn.), reliever Mike Puckli (Leesburg, Va.), second baseman Matthew Lesyk (Abbottsford, British Columbia), outfielder Adam Pernasilici (Tecumseh, Ontario), pitcher Bobby Hastry (Maynard, Mass.) and reliever Robert Ryan (Roslindale, Mass.) were honored for their contributions to the program.
Marist now stands at 17-28 overall. Fairfield is 15-27 overall and 9-13 in the MAAC. The teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday at McCann Baseball Field at noon in the home finale for the Red Foxes.
