Final Stats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Redshirt sophomore first baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) launched two homers Sunday to power the Marist baseball team to a 13-4 victory over Niagara at the McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes improved to 16-27 overall and 10-10 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while the Purple Eagles dipped to 13-27 overall and 2-16 in the league.
Marist freshman left hander Stephen Peterson (2-3, Danvers, Mass.) notched his second win of the season, allowing five hits and one earned run with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings of work. Senior reliever Bobby Hastry (Maynard, Mass.) also collected his first save of the season, hurling the game's final three innings, yielding two hits and one earned run with three strikeouts and one walk.
Niagara starter Ryan Virtue (1-3) took the loss, allowing nine hits and five runs with no strikeouts and one walk in 3.1 frames.
Anderson had six RBIs on the day, while senior third baseman Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.) and senior second baseman Matthew Lesyk (Abbottsford, British Columbia) had four hits apiece. That trio also scored three runs each as well. Senior center fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) registered his 18th stolen base of the season with a swipe of second in the first inning.
It was a good week for Marist as Lesyk (.667), Feeney (.480), freshman shortstop Richard Curylo (.444, Staten Island, N.Y.), Anderson (.407) and freshman first baseman Ryan Gauck (.400, Clifton Park, N.Y.) all hit .400 or better in those seven games. The Red Foxes were also stellar on the mound, sporting just a 3.05 ERA and a .269 batting average against.
The Purple Eagles were led offensively by two hits apiece from catcher James Nikolaides and right fielder Brian Clifford. Left fielder Tim Alberts scored two runs and tattooed his seventh home run of the season with a shot to left center off Hastry in the ninth.
The Red Foxes will be back in action Saturday at noon at the McCann Baseball Field when league foe Fairfield comes calling for a doubleheader.
