POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist Director of Athletics Tim Murray has announced that head women's water polo coach Andrew Silva has resigned his position after three seasons. Under Silva, Marist increased its win total each year and won the program's first ever MAAC Championship in 2006.
In three seasons guiding the Red Foxes, Silva posted a 60-49 (.550) record. In 2005, his first season at the helm, the Red Foxes won 13 games, a then school record for wins in a season. The 2006 season proved to be Marist's best season ever, as Silva guided the Red Foxes to a 23-15 record, the school's first ever MAAC Water Polo League Championship and first ever appearance in the NCAA Championships. Silva was named the 2006 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Foxes to an 8-2 mark in the league last season.
In 2007, Silva again guided the Red Foxes to a school mark for wins in a season with a 24-14 record. The Red Foxes entered the MAAC Water Polo League Tournament as the top seed, after a 10-0 regular season, for the first time in school history.
The San Luis Obispo, Calif. native mentored 2006 Co-Rookie of the Year Kari Weston (Chino Hills, Calif.). Weston was named to the league's second team this season along with freshman Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.). Silva also guided 2007 First Team All-MAAC Selections Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Elizabeth Davis (Albuquerque, N.M.), as well as 2007 Rookie of the Year Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas).
A national search for Silva's replacement will begin immediately.
