EL PASO, TEXAS - The Marist volleyball team earned its first victory of the 2007 season on Saturday, as the Red Foxes posted a 3-0 triumph over Texas Southern in the Sun Bowl Invitational. Behind a match-high 14 kills and nine digs from sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas), the Red Foxes rolled to a 30-20, 30-18, 30-23 victory.
Schultze hit .480 for the match. Freshman middle blocker Allie Burke (Alpharetta, Ga.) recorded 10 kills and three blocks while hitting .444.
Freshman libero Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) led Marist with 11 digs. Sophomore setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) had a team-best 22 assists, while red-shirt sophomore Lindsey O'Dell (Kingwood, Texas) added 11.
The Red Foxes trailed 20-19 in game one before reeling off 11 consecutive points.
Marist improves to 1-2 on the season. The Red Foxes will play their final match in the Sun Bowl Invitational at 7 p.m. EDT today, when they take on Texas-Pan American.
