Marist Men's Soccer Suffers 3-1 Loss To Fordham In Season Opener

Aug. 31, 2007

Final Stats

BRONX, N.Y. - Despite a second-half goal from Shareif Ali (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), the Marist men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 road loss to Fordham on Friday night in its season opener. Ali's goal tied the game at one apiece in the second half, but Dean Stanic's second and third goals of the game enabled the Rams to pull away.

Stanic came off the bench to score all three of his goals, the first of which came late in the first half to get Fordham on the board. Fordham outshot Marist by a count of 13-9, and registered six shots on goal to the Red Foxes' six.

Ali also led the Red Foxes with two shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Marcelo del Rio (Glendale, N.Y.) made five saves for the Red Foxes.

Marist returns to action on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., when the Red Foxes host Hartford in a game that will be played at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.
