Kathryn Hannis and Jennifer Orlando Named To MAAC All-Rookie Team

Nov. 6, 2008

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team had two players named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Rookie Team as announced by the conference office on Thursday. Freshmen Jennifer Orlando (Bloomfield, N.J.) were amongst the top 13 freshmen in the MAAC this season.

Orlando was named to the squad after a solid freshman season, as she played defense for the Red Foxes. She played in and started all 19 games that Marist played this season, as she recorded one assist in a 2-1 double overtime loss at Fordham on Sept. 12.

Hannis earned her way onto the team after she led Marist in goals and points in the 2008 season. She scored four goals for a total of eight points to pace the Red Foxes offense. She had two two-goal games, and game-winning goals in wins over Saint Peter's and Rider. The Bloomsbury, N.J., native was a mainstay at midfield for Marist; she started all 19 games this season.

The MAAC All-Academic Team was also announced on Thursday in Albany. Marist tied Iona for the most players on the squad. Each institution had 12.

Senior Anna Case (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) is the lone three-time member of the MAAC All-Academic Team for Marist. Three Red Foxes made the MAAC All-Academic Team for the second consecutive season. Senior Caitlin Nazarechuk (Ringwood, N.J.), and juniors Teresa Ferraro (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Alexandra Lauterborn (Farmingdale, N.Y.) were all on the 2007 and 2008 All-Academic Teams. Senior Laura Schaefer (Chatham, N.J.), and sophomores Daniella Burns (Holbrook, N.Y.), Merrilynn Esteve (Morristown, N.J.), Gillian Kape (Westfield, N.J.), Kassandra Palmer (Washington, N.J.), Amy Tillotson (Islip, N.Y.), Lauren Tillotson (Islip, N.Y.) and Katelynn Walsh (Westbury, N.Y.) were named to the team for the first time.

Marist finished the season with an overall record of 5-14 and 3-6 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes won three of their last four matches to end the season.
