WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over Monmouth on Saturday afternoon at West Point. Marist swept the singles action and went 3-0 in earning the doubles point. The win moves the Red Fox record to 4-2 overall. They are 2-0 in the MAAC.
In first singles, Christian Coley (Glastonbury, Conn.) won the most competitive match of the day 6-7, 7-5, 12-10, over Ben Everden. Loic Sessagesimi (La Tour-de-Peliz, Switzerland) beat Tom Corrie 6-3, 6-3 in second singles.
Freshman Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) beat Pedro Bruno 7-6, 6-3 in third singles, and Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) breezed by Vik Gupta 6-4, 6-3 in fourth singles.
Captain Greg Marks (Newburgh, N.Y.) disposed of Corey Forrest 6-3, 6-3 in fifth singles, while Antonio Oliver (Madrid, Spain) beat Tim Mclane 6-1, 5-0 (ret.) for the final Marist singles win.
Coley and von Nordheim knocked off Everden and Corrie in first doubles (8-4). Sessagesimi and Marks beat Bruno and Mclane 8-5 in second doubles, and Pisecky and Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) rolled over Gupta and Forrest 8-0.
The win ended Marist's brief two game losing streak.
"We bounced back really well," Marks said. "It's nice to get back to winning."
Marist will return to action when they visit Florida Atlantic on March 15.
