Final Stats
STONY BROOK, N.Y. - After falling to Saint Joseph's 9-8 in four overtimes on Saturday, the Marist men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-4 game at Stony Brook Tuesday night. Freshman Corey Zindel (Randolph, N.J.) led the Red Foxes with two points, a pair of assists. Marist is now 0-7 on the season.
Matt Teichmann (Huntington, N.Y.), Kyle Reny (Marblehead, Mass.), Keegan Blaney (Stony Brook, N.Y.) each had tallies for Marist on the night. Zindel led the Red Foxes with five shots, all on goal. Teichmann added four shots, with Pete O'Hara (Babylon, N.Y.) and Zachary Walsh (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) each taking three shots. Senior Lou Aboyoun (Wayne, N.J.) led the team with six ground balls, as classmate Dan Needle (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had five. Ryan Penner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made 11 saves.
Stony Brook (4-3) dominated the first quarter, taking 11 shots to Marist's four. Bo Tripodi put in two of his four goals in the first quarter, as the Seawolves ended the first 15 minutes ahead 4-0. Stony Brook added two more goals in the second quarter before the Red Foxes got on the board. With 2:17 to go in the half, Zindel set up Blaney for Marist's first tally of the game. The Seawolves pulled away in the third quarter with five goals to go ahead 11-3. Even though Reny and Teichmann tallied in the third to keep Marist in the game, Stony Brook added three more goals in the fourth for the win.
Tripodi led Stony Brook with four goals, as Bobby Trenkle had a hat trick. The Seawolves outshot Marist 43-24 and held a 31-21 ground ball advantage. Stony Brook converted 24-of-28 clear attempts, while Marist converted 21-of-26 clears. Alex Kajencki made 13 saves for the Seawolves.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday when they travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to take on Manhattan in MAAC Lacrosse League play. Gametime is scheduled for 1 p.m.
