POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team rolled past Fairfield, 5-1, in their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match of the spring. Christian Coley (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne Switzerland) were both double winners as the Red Foxes improved to 3-0 in conference play this season.
Due to time constraints, only one doubles match was played. In that match, Coley and Pisecky beat Ryan Berthod and Rob Ferronte 8-7(6) in a thriller.
Coley easily beat Berthod in number one singles 6-0, 6-4, and sophomore Loic Sessagesimi (La-Tour-de-Peliz, Switzerland) was victorious over Ferronte in second singles, 6-3, 6-4.
In third singles, Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) won a highly competitive match over George Laffey, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
Nicolas Pisecky cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Glenn Gannon at number four singles, and Greg Marks knocked off Balazs Szikla in fifth singles 6-2, 6-1.
Landon Greene (Palos Verde, Calif.) fell in sixth singles to Chip Palumbo 6-4, 6-4.
Marist (5-4, 3-0 MAAC) will take tomorrow off before hosting defending MAAC Champion Manhattan on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the East Campus Tennis Pavillion.
