Red Foxes Prevail Over Hofstra In Marathon Match

April 16, 2008

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - After four plus hours of great tennis, the Marist men's tennis team got a win from Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) in fourth singles to seal a 4-3 victory over Hofstra. Marist senior Greg Marks (Newburgh, N.Y.) also had a big night as he was a double winner on Senior Night at the Marist Tennis Pavilion.

With the match hanging in the balance at 3-3, Marist needed a win from their fantastic freshman in fourth singles, and they got it. Pisecky won the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (3) and was able to take advantage of a tired Tytus Stempniewicz en route to a 6-3 win in the second set.

Marks had no trouble in his fifth singles win over Alex Hosner. The Marist captain cruised 6-0, 6-2, as Hosner had no answer for anything Marks was doing.

Sophomore Loic Sessagesimi (La Tour-de-Peliz, Switzerland) defeated Stian Tvedt in second singles for Marist's third point. Sessagesimi won the first set 6-0, and was up 4-0 in the second set before winning 6-4.

The Red Foxes easily won all three doubles contests for the doubles point. Christian Coley (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Pisecky won their first doubles match 8-4, and Sessagesimi and Marks cruised 8-2 in second doubles. In third doubles, the freshman duo of Landon Greene (Palos Verde, Calif.) and Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) won by a score of 8-4.

Marks, Sessagesimi, and Pisecky were all double winners in the 4-3 win, and Marist has now won seven straight matches.

The Red Foxes (11-4, 6-0 MAAC) will try and make-up their match with Saint Peter's prior to the MAAC Tournament. Whether they play the Peacocks will not matter in the standings, as Marist will be the number one seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend in Flushing, N.Y.
