FLUSHING, N.Y.-- Marist is headed back to the MAAC Championship Match after disposing of Saint Peter's at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes won 6-1, and will face the Fairfield Stags in the MAAC Championship tomorrow morning.
Marist cruised in all three doubles matches. Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) and Christian Coley (Glastonbury, Conn.) teamed up for an 8-3 win in first doubles, while senior Greg Marks (Newburgh, N.Y.) and sophomore Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) and Landon Greene (Palos Verde, Calif.) paired for an 8-3 win in third doubles.
In singles action, Serge Igel defeated Coley in a marathon first singles match. Coley dominated the first set but faltered in the second. Igel then won a 12-10 decision in the breaker for the win. The final line was 1-6, 6-4, 12-10.
Sessagesimi continued his hot play with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win in second singles over Peter Czajka, and von Nordheim had no trouble with J.J. Gramatica in third singles. The freshman won 6-1, 6-2.
Nicolas Pisecky won his fourth singles match 6-2, 6-2 over Tony Wilkey, and Greg Marks won his team-high twelfth straight match over Chris Frakes in fifth singles. The senior captain won by a count of 6-3, 6-1.
Greene was the final Red Fox to get a win. He won 6-2, 6-0 in sixth singles over Jake Baranowski.
Marist will take on third seeded Fairfield, who knocked off Niagara in the other semifinal, in the Championship Match tomorrow morning beginning at 9:00 a.m.
