Marist Football Welcomes 36 Newcomers For 2008 Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist head football coach Jim Parady announced Friday that 36 student-athletes will join the Red Foxes' football program this season. The Red Foxes continue to recruit nationwide, as the incoming class includes players from New York (10), New Jersey (nine), Florida (five), California (three), Connecticut (three), Maryland (three), Massachusetts (two) and New Hampshire (one).

The class includes seven linebackers, six defensive backs, five offensive linemen, five wide receivers, four running backs, four defensive linemen, three quarterbacks, a kicker and a tight end.

"We believe we recruited a great group of young men who will contribute on the field and in the classroom," Parady said. "It is important for us to recruit on a national level, particularly since will be joining the Pioneer League in 2009."

Listed below is the entire class of Marist newcomers:

Jaquan Bryant - Defensive Back - 6-1 / 180 - St. Albans, N.Y. / Holy Cross H.S.

Bryant was named CHSFL Defensive MVP and played in the CHSFL Senior Bowl.

Spencer Cavalieri - Offensive Lineman - 6-2 / 240 - Tampa, Fla. / Gaither

Cavalieri was named First Team All-County and Second Team All-Suncoast.

Pat Crann - Linebacker - 6-1 / 212 - Knowlton Township, N.J. / North Warren Regional

Crann was named First Team All-West Jersey, All Area and Second Team All-State last year.

Ryan Cronan - Linebacker / Defensive Back - 6-0 / 200 - Hampton, N.H. / Winnacunnet

Cronan is a two-year First Team All-State selection.

Chris Debowski - Quarterback - 6-0 / 200 - Fountain Valley, Calif. / Fountain Valley H.S. / Orange Coast College

A junior college transfer, Debowski will have two seasons of eligibility at Marist.

Willis Dendy - Running Back - 5-11 / 195 - Brooklyn, N.Y. / Bishop Ford

Dendy played four years of varsity football at Bishop Ford.

James Desautels - Defensive Lineman - 6-3 / 235 - Manchester, Conn. / East Catholic

Desautels earned First Team All-State honors.

Jordany Dieujuste - Offensive Lineman - 6-2 / 260 - Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford

Dieujuste was a First Team All-State selection.

Ryan Dinnebeil - Running Back - 6-0 / 220 - River Vale, N.J. / St. Joseph Regional

A three-year varsity starter, Dinnebeil played on a state championship team in 2005.

Travis Fink - Offensive Lineman - 6-5 / 280 - Manasquan, N.J. / Manasquan

Fink won the Vince Lombardi Award for Most Dedicated Lineman at Manasquan.

Kevin Fitzpatrick - Wide Receiver - 6-2 / 189 - Columbia, Md. / Mount St. Joseph

As a senior, Fitzpatrick's team captured its league championship while he was named All-League.

Byron Gardner - Wide Receiver - 6-2 / 185 - Victorville, Calif. / Silverado

Gardner played for a two-time league champion in high school, and was named All-Area.

Michael Gentile - Quarterback - 6-3 / 190 - Staten Island, N.Y. / Monsignor Farrell

Gentile was named a CHSFL MVP and an All-Star by the Daily News and Staten Island Advance.

Mike Geschwind - Offensive Line - 6-4 / 255 - Granville, Mass. / Westfield

Geschwind was an All-State selection and the lone lineman finalist for the Bertelli Award.

Steve Guarino - Linebacker - 5-10 / 205 - Norwood, N.J. / St. Joseph's H.S.

Guarino played his high school ball at St. Joseph's.

Rodney Hill - Defensive Back - 6-0 / 200 - Bowie, Md. / Bowie

Hill was a two-time All-County choice was named Defensive Player of the Year twice.

Brandon Kicklighter - Defensive Back - 5-10 / 185 - Orlando, Fla. / Dr. Phillips

Kicklighter played scholastically at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando.

Alexander Killian - Linebacker - 6-3 / 210 - Farmingdale, N.J. / Howell

Killian comes to Marist after playing scholastically at Howell High School.

Justin Kopcik - Linebacker - 6-0 / 230 - East Haven, Conn. / Notre Dame H.S.

Kopcik was an All-State and All-League selection.

Jonathan Korn - Kicker - 6-0 / 170 - Shirley, N.Y. / William Floyd

Korn holds the Long Island record for most extra points in a scholastic career with 105.

Derek Lowe - Defensive Lineman - 6-2 / 210 - Tewksbury, Mass. / Tewksbury

Lowe was named the Merrimack Valley Conference Defensive MVP.

Calvin McCoy - Running Back - 5-9 / 180 - Bronx, N.Y. / Fordham Prep

McCoy was a First Team All-State choice.

Dan Miller - Linebacker - 6-0 / 205 - Middletown, N.J. / Middletown South

Miller's team won three consecutive state championships from 2004-06.

Timothy Moller - Defensive Back - 6-0 / 190 - Islip Terrace, N.Y. / East Islip

Moller's team went undefeated was Long Island champions this past year.

Bradley Moore - Defensive Lineman - 6-2 / 215 - Orlando, Fla. / Dr. Phillips

Moore and Brandon Kicklighter were high school teammates at Dr. Phillips.

Thomas Papa - Wide Receiver - 6-1 / 185 - Wayne, N.J. / Wayne Valley

Papa was a First Team All-Conference selection.

Derrick Powell - Defensive Back - 6-1 / 190 - Silver Spring, Md. / Northwood

Powell was a standout at safety at Northwood High School.

Tommy Reilly - Quarterback - 5-11 / 185 - Marlton, N.J. / Holy Cross H.S.

Reilly was a four-year member of the Holy Cross varsity team.

Michael Rios - Wide Receiver - 6-3 / 185 - Miami, Fla. / Belen Jesuit

Rios was named Offensive MVP and Second Team All-County.

R.J. Roe - Wide Receiver - 6-3 / 200 - Lacey Township, N.J. / Lacey Township

Roe helped lead his team to berths in three consecutive state championship games.

Maciej Smolinski - Tight End - 6-4 / 220 - Corona, Calif. / Santiago

Smolinski lined up at both tight end and wide receiver in high school.

Johnathan Stewart - Running Back - 5-10 / 200 - New York, N.Y. / Forman

Stewart played scholastically at the Forman School.

Carl Sugarman - Defensive Back - 5-11 / 165 - Miami, Fla. / Christopher Columbus

Sugarman earned Player of the Week honors from the Miami Herald.

David Toriola - Offensive Lineman - 6-2 / 285 - Jamaica, N.Y / St. Francis Prep

Toriola was named Most Valuable Two-Way Lineman as a senior.

Matt Walker - Defensive Lineman - 6-1 / 235 - Middlebury, Conn. / Pomeraug

Walker earned First Team All-State honors as a senior.

James Whalen - Linebacker - 6-2 / 215 - Cross River, N.Y. / John Jay H.S.

Whalen was a two-time All-Section choice.

The 2008 season for the Red Foxes begins on Friday, Aug. 29, when Marist takes on San Diego of the Pioneer League at 10 p.m. EDT. Marist will play 11 games this season, including six at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. Check back soon at GoRedFoxes.com for ticket information.
