POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Three players from the Marist soccer programs were named to the Academic All-District Teams by ESPN The Magazine as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Junior Joe Touloumis (Cranford, N.J.) of the men's soccer team was honored for the second time, just the second Marist student-athlete to achieve the feat, while Amy Tillotson (Islip, N.Y.) and Lauren Tillotson (Islip, N.Y.) of the women's team were named to the third and second teams, respectively.
Touloumis ranks second on the team in goals with five and is tied for second among Red Foxes in points with 11. He was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14, after he scored two game-winning goals in one-goal victories against Army and Drexel. During the 2008 season, Touloumis was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Second Team. With the first team honor in 2009, Touloumis is eligible for Academic All-American status.
Amy Tillotson is tied for second on the women's team in goals and points with five and 12, respectively. She has scored two goals for the Red Foxes in its first two MAAC Tournament games this weekend. She has played in 52 games during her career and has 16 points. Last year, she was a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team.
The primary center back for the Marist women's soccer team, Lauren Tillotson was named Second Team All-District. She has played in all 56 games during her three seasons with the Red Foxes and tallied a goal and an assist during her freshman year. She made the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2007 and the MAAC All-Academic Team in 2008.
To be nominated for the team, one must maintain a 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve on their team.
The trio of juniors becomes the 35th, 36th and 37th student-athletes to garner All-District status in the history of the Marist Department of Athletics. During the 2008-09 academic year, Marist set a record with 13 student-athletes being named to the All-District Teams in their respective sports.
