POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team swept a tri-meet with Binghamton and Siena on Saturday in the McCann Center Natatorium. The Red Foxes defeated the Bearcats 173-125 and bested the Saints 194-103 for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win. Marist has won its last three dual meets to improve its overall record to 3-2 this season and 2-1 in the MAAC.
Senior Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) and freshmen Chelsea Unger (Marlboro, N.J.) each won two events for the Red Foxes in the meet.
Walsh-Thomas began the afternoon with a win in the 1,000-yd. freestyle with a time of 10:41.16. She was followed in second place by senior Emily Hammang (Barrington, R.I.) who touched with a mark of 10:45.48. Walsh-Thomas also won the 500-yd. freestyle with a time of 5:13.00.
In the 100-yd. backstroke, Conard won her first event of the day with a time of 59.88 seconds. She later won the 200-yd. backstroke with a time of 2:07.00. Conard also finished second in the 200-yd. freestyle with a mark of 1:55.52, just behind the first place finisher, sophomore Michelle Fountain (Sayville, N.Y.). Fountain's time was 1:54.17.
Unger claimed the top spot in both the 100- and 200-yd. breaststrokes. In the 100-yd. event she finished with a time of 1:07.09, while in the 200-yd. event she touched the finishing wall with a time of 2:28.00.
Freshman Chelaine Eliazar (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the diving corps with a victory off the 3-meter board. She totaled 201.90 points. In 1-meter diving, Eliazar claimed second place with a score of 187.45.
Marist will return to the pool on Dec. 4-5 at the H20unds Invitational hosted by Loyola University. The Red Foxes will swim against Delaware, Iona and Loyola in the two-day event.
