NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team opened their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schedule on Sunday at Niagara with a 7-0 win. On the day, Marist dropped just one set out of 16 sets played in total.
The day started with three doubles wins for Marist. Junior Christian Coley (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Rhys Hobbs (Sydney, Austrailia) triumphed at first doubles over Joe Heckley and Steve Kopf, 8-4.
At second doubles, junior Loic Sessagesimi (Blonay, Switzerland) and freshman Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) prevailed over David Sarrasin and Joe Zelic, 8-5.
Sophomore Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and senior Antonio Oliver (Madrid, Spain) rounded out the doubles with a win at the third spot. They bested Marc Dickinson and Nick Bolea, 8-3.
In singles action, Coley defeated Dickinson at first singles. After coasting in the first set, he faltered in the second, but recovered nicely in the third for a three-set victory. The scores were 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Sessagesimi had the smoothest match of all the Red Foxes today at second singles. He defeated Heckley, 6-1, 6-1.
Himmelsbach had a quick day on the court as well. In his first start at fifth singles, he posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bolea.
Marist (4-2, 3-0 MAAC) will step out of conference for a dual match with Connecticut on Wednesday, April 1 at 1:30 p.m.
