POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Senior co-captain Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) notched the deciding point in Marist's 4-3 victory over Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match on Wednesday evening. Zampello got the deciding victory at second singles over Manhattan's Morgan MacTaggert, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Zampello led 5-4 heading into the final game, with MacTaggert serving to stay in the match. She was able to break MacTaggert's serve to seal the win for the Red Foxes, their first of the season.
Marist also got victories at no. 1 singles from freshman Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) who defeated Lindsey Keeler in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (4). McCarthy survived a scare in the second set as she was up 5-2 before Keeler got back in the set.
Freshman Kayla O'Donovan (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) won at fifth and sixth singles respectively. Each of their wins was rather convincing. O'Donovan bested Christine Krasinski 6-3, 6-1, while Lukin cruised past Christina Ton, 6-2, 6-3.
