POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Senior first baseman Jessica Green (Manassas, Va.) of the Marist softball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the conference office. It is the first time this season that Green has received the honor and second time she has been awarded conference player of the week in her career.
Green hit .571 (8-for-14) this week as Marist went 3-1 to lift their MAAC record to 7-5, good for a third place tie with Canisius. Green scored six runs on the weekend, all of which came in Marist victories, while driving in four others. She had three extra base hits at Saint Peter's on Saturday (one double, one home run) en route to a 6-for-9 day at the plate. Green had a perfect week defensively, with 33 put outs and five assists at first base. On the season she is one of two Red Foxes to start every game.
Marist will return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon on the road as the Red Foxes take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
