POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist department of athletics has released the 2009-10 men's and women's swimming and diving schedule. This season the team will compete in 12 meets, including six dual meets under 31st-year director of swimming Larry VanWagner.
"This season's schedule includes opponents from conferences such as the Big East, the America East and the Atlantic 10," VanWagner said. "We feel in facing these schools, we have the most competitive schedule possible."
The Red Foxes will open the 2009-10 season with an intra-squad scrimmage at the McCann Center Natatorium on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. The teams will split in half and race against one another in preparation for the upcoming season at the Red & White Challenge.
One week later, Marist will open its regular season at the Orange Invitational. The teams will face-off with Army and Syracuse on Oct. 16-17. Races are scheduled to begin on Friday at 4 p.m., and on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Following the Orange Invitational, Marist will compete in four straight dual meets. The Red Foxes will open the stretch with their first home meet of the season against Fordham on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. Marist will then face Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents Rider and Fairfield in road dual meets on Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, respectively. The stretch wraps up on Saturday, Nov. 21 as Siena and Binghamton come to Poughkeepsie for a three-team meet, which is set to kick-off at 1 p.m.
The Red Foxes will finish up the fall semester at Loyola for the H20 Hounds Invitational. Marist will take on Delaware, Iona and Loyola at the meet. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m., and will conclude on Saturday, Dec. 5
After an eight-day training trip in Puerto Rico, the Red Foxes will resume their season with two road dual matches and two home dual matches. Marist will start its stretch of back-to-back road meets on Jan. 9 as they take on the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. The brief road trip will conclude at Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m.
VanWagner and the Red Foxes will return to the McCann Center for their final two dual matches of the year. Marist will host UMBC on Sunday, Jan. 24 at noon and host Seton Hall on Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m.
Upon the conclusion of the dual meet season, Marist will travel to Loyola (Md.) as the men's team looks for its 13th MAAC Championship and the women vie for the 11th championship in program histories. The meet will take place from Thursday, Feb. 11 - Saturday, Feb. 13.
Student-athletes that qualify can participate in the ECAC Championships from Feb. 26-28 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Additionally divers who meet the score requirements can take part in the NCAA Zone Diving Championship at Rutgers University from Mar. 12-13.
