SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - The Marist women's soccer team opens a three-game road trip on Friday, Aug. 28 at the University of San Francisco. The west coast swing will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 30 as the Red Foxes oppose the UC Davis Aggies in Davis, Calif. This is the first meeting with each opponent in program history.
SCOUTING USF: San Francisco opens its 2009 regular season Friday night at 10 p.m. ET against Marist. The Dons won both of their exhibition games in shutout fashion, 1-0 over UC Davis, and 2-0 over San Francisco State. Last season San Francisco went 5-13-2 and returns eight starters to the lineup for 2009.
SCOUTING UC DAVIS: In its regular season opener, UC Davis earned a 1-1 draw against Sacramento State. Junior Samantha Faber scored the lone Aggie goal in the 83rd minute to erase a 1-0 deficit. The squad split its two preseason games, dropping a 1-0 decision to San Francisco and taking a 2-1 victory from Chico State.
COLLEGIATE FIRSTS: In her first career collegiate contest, Jackie Frey scored her first goal, a game-winner in Marist's 2-0 win over Youngstown State on Aug. 21.
KEEP THE BALL OUT: Red Foxes red-shirt junior netminder Jamie Balzarini posted her fourth shutout during her tenure with the club. All of her career wins have come via the shutout as she improved to 4-6 as the keeper for the Red Foxes.
NEW OPPNENTS IN 2009: Marist has four new opponents on the 2009 schedule. They include: Youngstown State, San Francisco, UC Davis and Boston College. The Red Foxes are 1-0 against new opponents this year.
ON THE HORIZON: Marist will wrap-up a three-game road trip on Friday, Sept. 11 at #23 Boston College Eagles. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
