POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team returned home after a three-game road trip as it met the Colgate Red Raiders on Sunday afternoon. With 30 seconds to play in regulation, Colgate's Avery Atkins evened the score at one with a goal off a scramble. The Raiders marker forced overtime, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Marist (1-3-1) outshot its opponent 25-16 in the match, including 8-4 in the second half. The Red Foxes put 16 shots on goal to Colgate's five.
Senior Kate Fox (Franklin, Mass.) gave Marist a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. She put a header away off a Jessica Arabia (Naperville, Ill.) cross from the right flank. The goal was Fox's third of the season and 20th of her career. She is now tied for second place on Marist's all-time goals list. Arabia's assist was her first collegiate point.
Marist took a total of three shots in eight seconds in the 47th minute. Freshman Jaclynn Sabia (Wayne, N.J.), and sophomores Kathryn Hannis (Bloomsbury, N.J.) and Mariah Downey (Cheshire, Conn.) took the shots, while Sabia and Hannis put theirs on goal. Colgate's goalkeeper Ashley Walsh was there to make the saves. She had 14 saves on the day. Sabia led Marist with eight shots and five on goal.
Marist will return to action on Friday, Sept. 18 when it travels to Bucknell for a matchup with its Patriot League foe. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
