POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Sophomore Adam Vess (Cromwell, Conn.) led the Marist cross country team to a win in its season-opening race at Bowdoin Park Saturday morning. Vess was the top individual finisher in the 5K race, running a time of 16:12. Marist had nine runners finish in the top ten in the race, winning as a team with 16 points over Rider and Saint Peter's.

Sophomore Conor Shelley (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) placed third, running a time of 16:21. Curtis Jensen (Atlantic Highlands, N.J.) was right behind Shelley, finishing fourth and covering the Bowdoin Park course in 16:24. Nick Webster (Latham, N.Y.) rounded out the Red Foxes' scoring pack, placing sixth in a time of 16:41.

Freshman Arquimedes DeleCruz (Wantagh, N.Y.) had an impressive collegiate debut, finishing seventh in a time of 16:49. Zachary Smetana (Niskayuna, N.Y.) placed in eighth and ran a 16:50. Timothy Keegan (Huntington, N.Y.) finished ninth in 16:54, and Sam McMullen (Newton, N.J.) placed 10th in 16:54.

The Marist men's cross country team will next be in action on Sept. 20 at the Boston University Invitational.
