NEW HAVEN, CONN. - Freshmen Chelsea Unger (Marlboro, N.J.) and sophomore Meredith Michl (Delmar, N.Y.) of the Marist women's swimming and diving team each won two events apience in a 147-95 victory at Southern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes have won seven of their last eight dual meets and stand at 7-3 overall.
Conard cruised to victories in the 1,650-yd. freestyle and the 500-yd. freestyle. She won the 1,650-yd. freestyle with a time of 17:20.41, and over 20 seconds ahead of second place finisher Emily Hammang (Barrington, R.I.). In the 500-yd. freestyle she swam to a time of 5:08.82 for the win.
Unger posted her two victories in the 50-yd. freestyle and the 100-yd. freestyle. She swam to times of 25.19 seconds in the 50-yd. event and 54.09 seconds in the 100-yd. event.
Michl won each of the diving events and recorded a personal best score off the 3-meter board. She totaled 252.00 points in the 3-meter event and 218.95 points off the 1-meter board.
Marist completed a sweep of the top three spots in the 500-yd. freestyle as Hammang and senior Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) took second and third respectively. Hammang's time was 5:13.34, while Walsh-Thomas finished with a time of 5:18.82.
The Red Foxes took first and second place in the 200-yd. butterfly. Sophomore Lyndsay Martin (Schenectady, N.Y.) took second with a time of 2:13.37.
Marist concluded the meet with a victory in the 200-yd. freestyle relay. Martin, Walsh-Thomas, Hammang and senior Alyssa Hewitt (Pittsfield, Mass.) notched a time of 1:43.42 in the victory.
The swimming and diving programs will return to the pool on Sunday, Jan. 24 when it takes on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. The first event is scheduled to begin at noon.
