FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Marist men's soccer team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match at Fairfield on Sunday afternoon. The Stags scored a pair of goals 2:05 apart in the second half to secure a 3-1 victory over the Red Foxes. Sophomore Stephan Brossard (Port Washington, N.Y.) scored a goal for the third straight game in the 66th minute.
Marist (6-6, 1-2 MAAC) took 13 shots, and were led by juniors Krystian Witkowski (Rochester, N.Y.), Lucas Szabo (Bethesda, Md.) and Alex George (Southold, N.Y.). Witkowski and George took three shots, while Szabo had two.
The Stags jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Nuno Rodrigues tallied the match's first goal. Fairfield (3-5-5, 2-2 MAAC) strung together a pair of passes as Daniel Shaw and Jon Clements were credited with assists.
After Fairfield scored a pair of goals 2:05 apart in the 63rd and 65th minutes, Brossard headed in a cross from freshman James Curley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) to the right post. The tally by Brossard cut the Fairfield lead to 3-1 with 34:01 remaining in the match.
The Red Foxes held a slight 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Joe Pilla (Watertown, Conn.) made three saves in the loss.
Marist returns to action against MAAC foe Saint Peter's on Friday, Oct. 22. Kickoff at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field is slated for 7 p.m. Admission to all Marist soccer games is free and open to the public.
