POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist volleyball team fell to the Loyola Greyhounds, 3-0 (25-18, 30-28, 25-16), in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match, snapping a five-match winning streak on Saturday. Freshman Grace Hill (Portage, Mich.) led Marist with 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Marist (12-11, 7-4 MAAC) began the match down 13-5. Despite a 10-3 run which was capped by a kill from sophomore Katie Estes (Saugus, Calif.) to come within one point, the Red Foxes could not hold on and dropped the first set 25-18.
In the second set, Marist took a quick 8-1 lead over Loyola (10-15, 4-7 MAAC) behind kills by Hill and senior Allie Burke (Alpharetta, Ga.). After trailing 15-6, the Greyhounds went on to erase a nine-point deficit and took a 22-21 lead. From there, the teams traded points with seven ties and four lead changes, which resulted in a 30-28 Loyola victory.
Down 0-2, Marist jumped out to a 5-4 lead to start the third set. After tying the set on a kill by Katie Dircks, Loyola went on to score seven of the next eight points to take an 11-6 lead, forcing a Marist timeout. The Greyhounds would extend their lead to nine points late in the set and held on for a 25-16 victory to win the match.
Hill finished one dig shy of a double-double with 13 kills and nine digs. Defensively, Marist was led by Burke who recorded four total blocks while senior Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) tallied a team-high 15 digs.
The Greyhounds received a match-high 16 kills from Nina Camaioni, who also led Loyola with 12 digs.
Marist looks to bounce back tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 24 when it hosts Iona at 2 p.m. Last time the two teams met, the Red Foxes swept the Gaels 3-0 on Sept. 25.
